James Alexander Deed 1745
This Indenture made this the first day of April in the
Eighteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the second by the
Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith Anno
Domini 1744 Between John Child Esq Vice President Mr Levy Ball Mr Francis
Minshull Mr Joseph Mico Mr Henry Greenaway and Mr Thomas Knapp for and in behalf
of themselves and the rest of the West New Jersey Society of the first part and
James Alexander of the city of New York of the second part. Whereas the parties
aforesaid of the first part being seized in fee of thirteen thousand five
hundred acres of land after allowance for barrens sic situate beginning opposite
point of land that lyeth between Passaic river & Pequannock river lying and
being on the south side of the Passaic river and from thence running South
Seventy Degrees Westerly Eighty Five chains from thence Seventy Two Degrees
Easterly Two Hundred and Eighty Three Chains Thence South Forty Four Degrees
Westerly Four Hundred and Seventy Five Chains Thence to the most Easterly corner
of Thomas Fullerton's land and Thence along said Fullerton's land North Forty
Five Westerly One Hundred and Five Chains to said Passaic River where Fullerton
Brook falls into the same Thence following down the stream of said Passaic River
to the upper corner of a small tract of land belonging to John Johnston and
Michael Hawden then North Fifty Three Degrees Easterly along their line to said
Passaic River and thence running down the line of the said river as aforesaid to
where it began and also seized fee of One Thousand acres of land with the
appurtenances scituate lying and being on the West side of the Raway River in
the County of Essex Beginning by the said Raway river at the upper corner of
John Pope's land and running West One hundred and Four Chains thence North One
Hundred and Seventeen Chains Thence East to Raway river and thence as the said
river runs to the place where it began And also Seized in Fee of Three Thousand
Six Hundred acres of land lying in the County of Bergen. Beginning on the West
Side of the Hudson River bt the land of George Lockhart Deceased and running
along the lines of said Lockhart's land as his land goes to Cheche Brook up the
stream thereof to the land late of Baltazar Dehart deceased thence along the
line of the said Dehart's land to Hudson's river and thence along said Hudsons
river to where it began. Together with the appurtances thereunto belonging to
they the parties aforesaid of the first part by their instrument or letter of
Attorney in writing duly executed bearing date the Tenth day [page 377] February
in the tenth year of our Sovereign Lord King George the second did constitute
and appoint Joseph Murray, Jeremiah Lattouch, Joseph Haynes and every any and
either of them to be their agents Attorneys of factors in his Majesties Province
of New Jersey and elsewhere in America. To sell assign and dispatch of any of
their lands as tenements according to the instructions which they every or any
of them should from time to time receive from the said constituents or from the
committee for the time being or any part thereof to such person or persons as
for such sum or sums of money as should be deemed merit for the Society's
advantage to make and execute all New Jersey deeds and writings as the case and
customs of the county should require as by the said instrument under the hands &
seals of them the said John Child Levy Ball Thomas Minshull Joseph Mico Henry
Greenaway & Thomas Knapp and also sealed with the common seals of the said West
New Jersey Society and recorded in the Secretarys Office at Burlington in Book
E,pg 247 & recorded also in the Secretary's office at Perth Amboy in Liber E,
Fol. 1&2. Reference thereunto (being) had many more fully and at large appear
