1.  The era of the Barnum & Bailey Circus traveling from city to city and setting up on large open fields such as the one at McClellan Street in Newark came to an end on July 12, 1956, when Barnum & Bailey gave its final field performance in Pittsburgh.

        The financially-ailing circus had given up, but later that year, Irvin Feld saved the Barnum & Bailey Circus from oblivion by taking over the failed circus and restoring the performances in arenas.
