3.    The purchase of Elvings by Father Divine was very likely in cash -- paper money brought to the transaction closing by his aides in satchels.  It is known that this procedure was followed in another Newark transaction by Father Divine, and a search of Newark Evening News indexes for 1944 under "Newark Realty" failed to show an entry for this particular property.

        It was a firm rule of Father Divine's Peace Mission Movement that it be independent and self-supporting, and that it accept nothing that they had not paid for, and paid only in cash.
